In the lower town, a walk around the banks of the Eure offers a magnificent spectacle.

The river Eure crosses the old town and is spanned by numerous mediaeval bridges. The names of the streets all along the banks evoke the traditional activities that depended on the river, from the site of the slaughterhouse downstream, to the washhouses upstream. Here artisans worked the wool, leather and furs, and wove and dyed the cloth…
