Saint-Aignan church has been on the list of Historic Monuments since 1840 and bears the name of a fifth century bishop of Chartres.
Situated close to the old château, it was, during the Middle Ages, the church of the Counts of Chartres.

After being damaged by several fires, it was rebuilt in different stages. The actual construction dates mostly from the 16th and 17th centuries, though earlier elements remain.
The original idea of a stone-vaulted roof was abandoned in favour of the impressive painted beams that we see today.
The walls of the nave and of the choir are also ornately painted.

The admirable stained-glass windows represent the whole period from the Renaissance to the 19th century. The church was sold during the French Revolution and some of the stained glass was removed and preserved. When the building was returned to the Church in 1822, the glass was put back again, if in a rather arbitrary fashion ! The Lorin workshop, one of the biggest in Chartres, made more glass at the end of the 19th century for the windows that have been left empty.
